10 – Tequila Sunrise

The Tequila sunrise is a fairly infamous cocktail, originally created by Gene Sulit and first served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel around the 1930s’s. The original recipe is made up of Tequila, Creme de Cassis, lime juice and soda. The more popular version of the cocktail now consists of Tequila, Grenadine syrup and orange juice.

When you’re trying to impress, the Kir Royale is an elegant cocktail with a touch of class. The two main ingredients are Champagne and Chambord, and the drink is garnished with a black raspberry and lemon twist.

8 – Long Island Iced Tea

The Long Island Iced Tea is a strong cocktail with a high concentration of alcohol compared to most highball drinks due to the relatively small amount of mixer. The cocktail is so named because of the comparison in both colour and taste to Iced Tea. The drink consists of Vodka, Gin, Rum, Tequila, Triple Sec, Sweet and Sour mix, Coke and Ice.

There are many different type of Daiquiri, but the most popular is the strawberry version. It is believed that the drink was named after a beach in Cuba by an American mining engineer during the Spanish-American war. The primary ingredients are Rum, Sugar, Lime, Ice and any other ingredients specific to that version i.e. Strawberry, and is often garnished with a twist of lime.

The Margarita is another cocktail that has many different versions and flavours, but the original recipe consists mainly of Tequila, Cointreau and lemon or lime juice. Another favourite for special occasions, the mimosa is often consumed with brunch or for breakfast as “hair of the dog” for wedding guests. Very simply the cocktail consists of a fresh fruit juice, traditionally orange, combined with Champagne and served in a Champagne flute.

The Vodka Martini is a very popular cocktail, clocking in at number 4 in the list, and a lot of this can be put down to the fact it was so famously the drink of choice by England’s number one spy. James Bond would request a “Vodka Martini, shaken not stirred”. The drink consists of Vodka, Dry Vermouth, and is garnished with olives or a twist of lemon.

The most popular cocktail made of Champagne or Prosecco is the Bellini. Originating from Venice in Italy, it consists of Champagne and a peach juice or puree. The name Bellini comes from its unique pink colour, which reminded the inventor, Giuseppe Cipriani, of the toga of a saint in a 15th Century painting by Giovanni Bellini. It is another classy and refreshing cocktail.

The Cosmopolitan hit an all time high with popularity thanks to the popular TV show Sex and the City. The drink consists of Vodka, Triple Sec, cranberry Juice and lime juice. It is famously served with either a thin slide of lime on the rim of the glass, or a twist of lemon.
